ADVOCACY AT IT’S BEST
University of North Texas’ 2nd Biennial Water Conference
DENTON (UNT), Texas – MARCH 6, 2007 – Renown author and environmental advocate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and John A. McLachlan, director of the Center for Bioenvironmental Research at Tulane and Xavier Universities and Katrina Environmental Research & Restoration Network, will be speaking March 14th and 15th at the University of North Texas as part of the Distinguished Lecture Series on WaterWays 2007.
WaterWays 2007 is a joint organization of scientists, philosophers, politicians, artists, managers, and specialists from many different public and private associations, all supporting and participating in awareness for major water consumption issues. This year’s conference will be focusing on the conditions of river basins, the Ganga-Brahmaputra-Meghna in particular. The conference is organized by the Philosophy of Water project in conjunction with many other educational departments at University of North Texas.
Kennedy’s passion for relief and restoration has made him a successful prosecutor and representative. He has gained recognition for his leadership in restoration to the Hudson River of New York as one of Time Magazine’s “Heroes for the Planet”. Kennedy’s participation generated a movement for better water quality and moderation. Now there are more than 130 different Waterkeeper activists across the world.
John A. McLachlan Ph. D. has specialized in research concerning the long term environmental and estrogen effects on fetal development. As a professor and director at Tulane and Xavier, he has launched a new interdisciplinary program and research center known as RiverSphere. His specialization in pharmaceuticals have led him to new discoveries in fetal growth and contributed to the success and knowledge of many governmental agencies and scientific councils.
The conference will also be featuring several other political, educational, and corporate speakers throughout the series. Lectures start at 9:00am and go till 9:30am. Kennedy’s tickets are free for UNT students, faculty, and staff. Tickets are available for the general public at $10.00 and can be purchased prior to the event starting February 19 in the University Union Information Center.
